Chest Pain, B12, Thyroid Newsletter

Pain in the chest, shortness of breath, radiating pain down the arm, nausea, etc. Sounds like a heart attack but all of the tests are negative.
So what do you when the emergency docs send you home and tell you it is nothing? Most likely you are dealing with a rib that is either stuck or not moving in the way it is supposed to.
Did you know your rib can “go out”?  Many of my patients know when this happens and they call me right away. If you have a rib out you will know it as the symptoms are sudden and sharp. Rib pain can be miserable.

What Can You Do At Home Before You See Me???
Heat and Ice. One of the biggest complaints, when a rib is out, is muscle spasming. Heat will help you endure a muscle spasm. There is a caveat, however. Heat brings blood to an area and if that blood is not flushed out, it will cause more inflammation. So, use heat for 20 minutes and then walk around for a while or ice it. Ice drives away inflammation. Ice for 20 minutes maximum. Always end with icing.

After you have iced come in for an adjustment. I can get the rib back in place as long as you have properly iced. Usually, your pain will be gone within a very short time.

Some strange symptoms that point to a vitamin B 12 deficiency

1.You can barely stay awake in the afternoon—even if you slept 8 hours.

Fatigue is one of the first signs of B12 deficiency, That’s because your body relies on the vitamin to make red blood cells, which carry oxygen to your organs. And without enough oxygen in your cells, you’ll feel tired no matter how long you sleep!

2.Muscle weakness – If they’re not getting enough oxygen from red blood cells, your muscles will feel like mush.

3.You experience strange sensations– It can feel like electricity running from your head to your feet. These weird pains are all a result of nerve damage, which is triggered by low oxygen levels in cells.

4.You are forgetful. You may be worried that it’s early dementia, but sometimes low B12 is to blame.

5. You are pale.If your rosy complexion now has a yellow cast, low B12 may be the culprit. With a deficiency, the red blood cells that you do have are very fragile and easily broken, causing a release of bilirubin pigment that gives skin a yellow hue

6. Every little thing makes you cry or worried?  A lack of B12 wreaks havoc on your mood, possibly leading to depression or anxiety.

Sluggish Thyroid
The thyroid helps balance hormones, regulates heartbeat, stabilizes cholesterol, maintains weight control, encourages muscle growth, keeps menstrual cycles regular, provides energy, and even helps you keep a positive mental attitude.
Women are naturally prone to iodine deficiencies, which is essential for healthy thyroid function. Did you know that the thyroid gland in women is twice as large as in men? So under normal circumstances, women need more iodine. However, when women are under stress, the need for iodine can double or even triple. Yet the foods we eat contain less and less dietary iodine. For example, back in 1940, the typical American diet contained about 800 micrograms of iodine. By 1995, that amount plunged to just 135 micrograms. That’s an 85% decline!
Two-thirds of the body’s iodine is found in the thyroid gland. One of the best ways to boost your iodine levels is to add sea vegetables to your diet. Just one teaspoon of sea vegetables a day can help regain normal iodine levels.
I have women that just can’t lose weight no matter how hard they try. Also, women that are suffering from hot flashes can benefit greatly from iodine.  A simple iodine patch test I do in my office will reveal if your thyroid is starving for iodine.  I have a great product that will supplement iodine. It is also very inexpensive.
